Taking the cat for a spin.

Lilly is sometimes very insistent that she will sit on your lap. It can make the spinning a little awkward, but she doesn't mind at all. :P
Our old girl will be 20 next month.

Things on the go at the moment.

I started my first knitting project for a while. I did knit a scarf for my niece over Christmas but that was just straight knitting. This is the first pattern I have followed for quite some years.
Here is the yarn from spinning to project. This is the pattern I am following. The Trillian by Martina Behm

I am also crocheting a cardigan The patter is by Bobsilson123 and the tutorial can be found here. Adult crochet cardigan

Found Yarn Bowl

I have seen yarn bowls, both wood and ceramic, and thought they were a great idea.  I have been working for some time now to try and gradually de-cluttered the house and had an old wooden bowl that I did not use for anything. It occurred to me that it might make a nice yarn bowl. I had ideas of how I might cut out the side and such but it turned out the have enough of a curved top that the yarn stays put. It even holds the crochet cotton nicely, I just unwind some and wind it back round and it pulls out beautifully.
I have sanded it back and oiled it to bring out the colours and now it is a lovely thing that I am using all the time and not something cluttering up my kitchen cupboards anymore.

Successful Christmas Gifts.

You know you are doing okay when a kid will put a scarf on,on a 36c degrees heat day.
I really would have liked to make more this Christmas, but as with a lot of us, time is always scarce around that time of year. Plus we have had some pretty significant heat waves already and sweating and knitting/crochet don't really go together well.
I used up some old family stashes of novelty yarn for this and one that I had bought on special a while ago. I also tested out my knitting ability on the middle one. I wasn't sure if my hands could handle knitting.
I wanted them to be fun and very tactile and not so precious that the kids couldn't drag them around and enjoy them. They turned out really nice I think.

My Favorite Crochet Project for 2015

Earlier this year I made a little net bag of sea creatures for my nephews birthday. I was rather proud of this lot because I made up the crab and jellyfish myself, using images and pieces of other patterns.
The gift was very well received.
